What is a local economy?

A local economy is the system of production, distribution and consumption of a community. In other words, your local economy consists of you, your neighbour and anyone in your neighbourhood that contributes to the economic well being of your community.

A locally owned independent company returns about 75% of each dollar spent back to the community. Local businesses support your community. One dollar spent at a locally owned business will return five times that amount within the community through employees’ wages, city taxes and purchase of supplies at other local businesses. Also, these businesses will turn that dollar back into the community through social services, school funding and contributions to local non-profit organizations.
